We have had to remove the female ram from small tank as she was being picked on by the male. She seems ok in the community tank. Could we try another female with the male or would the same thing happen? We also have an algae problem and wondered if anyone could recommend a small algae eater to deal with this.

You could possibly try the same female again and keep a close eye and if the slightest thinghappens, then take her back out. I've reintroduced females successfully before, albeit not very often. If that doesn't work, you could try another female. That is sometimes a workable solution as I've found some fish just don't like each other but add a different one to the mix and you'll have a chance at success.

for small algae eaters you could try the ottocinclus. here in singapore they come in 2 more variants, the gold and zebra.. they do not exceed 2 inches and shud be available at where you live. if you're into shrimps for algae there's the yamato shrimps if they're stocked in your area
