Hi all

I got 2 Bolivian Rams yesterday, now they have settled in, I am able to take pics of them to show you all.

I think, following sexing guides I read before purchasing them that I got a male and a female but Ill leave that to even more experienced fish keepers here!

(fish at the top here, is the fish that is at the bottom on previoud 2 photos)

Let me know what you think of them. They also ate tetra prima today so Im quite pleased. Ill try them on flake, but im not expecting them to eat it.

I may buy some frozen bloodworm for them, and maybe live bloodworm when I next go to the fish store- good/bad? or maybe Daphania?

cheers

Will

The one bottom right on the first two and top left on the last one is probably male.

As for the other one, I'm not exactly sure, it could be female or male. I'm edging on female...but it doesn't look as round as I'd expect a female to be.

To be honest it's practically impossible to sex them unless they've spawned. Unless they're a mature male.

They are so hard to sex. Unitll they are full grown. I agree with Curiosity101 Duller larger one looks like a female. Venting them is the only 100% way to tell unless you see them spawn.

I have to of these and I'm not 100% sure but I think I have a male and female.

Look At this male is top female bottem look at body shape.

You can't go by the fins or color so much. One reason why they are so hard to sex. It's the body shape. Look at the link photos. Look at the lower belly on the male it is flat. The breeding tube is small and pointed. The bottom photo look at how the belly is more rounded the breeding tube is a bit thicker it's hard to see. If you look close the top photo the mAle has longer fins with a bit more point to them.

A domanite female can look a bit like a male. Round belly is almost always going to be female in the fish world.

I have 3 rams and I'm pretty sure I've got all males...unless males and females fight?

Certainly none of them is remotely interested in bonding at the moment. Sexing fish is hard!
