Was thinking of getting some rams for my 4ft fish tank, i already have ten fish in the tank already, was wondering which is best to keep the golden species or the bolivan type? and how many would be a sensible amount to get?any advice would be welcome

I personaly Love the bolivian rams they are great little fish and are so cutes. SO I would go with them. I never was a fan of the Golds.

What is your tank in gallons and what are the 10 other fish?

I would also go for the bolivians as they golds and blues need higher temperatures than most fish around 28c and low ph below 7.

got 5 guppys,2 platys,2 mollys,a big angel and2 catfish, yeah bolivans sounds the best option, would i get away with buying 4/5 of these fine fish!

37 imp gallons m8!

What are the catfish? What do they look like? Big small? 37 imp gallons = 45 US gallons, most of this forum works in US gallons so sometimes best to refer to that way of doing stuff :)

With the bolivians, go for 4. Try to get either 2 males and 2 females, 1 male and 3 females or all females. Usually with cichlids males have longer fin extentions so thats one thing to look out for but I believe there are other ways with rams.... but not sure what they are Im sure an other member will be able to help you with that..

Sexing these guys is very hard to do when they are under 2". Females tend to have a round body. Yes the males have longer fins but the females also get the extentions. I have 2 males I thought one was a female I sat and watched them for 15 min before I picked them out. As they grow up I saw I had 2 males again. I gave up trying to sex them when they are young.

Good luck.
