Boiled Water Ban?

Right now there is a 'boiled water ban,' which basically means that to drink water right now it is only safe if you boil it. I just got a new tank today and its ready to go, it just needs to fill, but I'm not sure...Boiling all of it isn't really an option for me

Well, boil orders only go into effect if there are some nasty things in the water. If you aren't going to boil the entire tank, then I'd suggest leaving it empty until the order is lifted. If there is stuff in there bad to humans, then it probably is none-too-good for fish, either. Do you know what the order is for? It could be from as bad as e coli or some other bacteria in the water, to as little as there was a pipe leak, and boiling is just extra insurance.

I'd hold off on filling the tank & make sure you have enough water for human usage.

Thanks for the link Tolak, I didn't actually know what it was for

I guess that's why I have an RO unit, although I'm not really a fan of using it on FW

Be very careful about what you do after that leak is repaired. Most water suppliers will use a heavy dose of chlorine after a leak like that is repaired to make sure the water becomes drinkable as soon as possible. That means that normal use of tap water conditioner will not be enough. If possible, skip one or two weeks of water changes on your tanks and take the added precaution of double dosing dechlorinator for at least a month. These guys get very serious about over-treating water with chlorine after that kind of event.

Yeah, that always happens, and I usually double dose the dechlor anyways. I suppose however that the fresh water tanks can wait, and my saltwater tank uses RO, so it's all good
