BogWood

Bogwood should sink by itself because of its nature - whereas driftwood is a different matter and will probably need to be weighted down...

www :)

Mopani should sink, bogwood may need soaking first, though stuff I have bought from lfs sinks from purchase, Leave it in water for 24-48 hours, hot water. after 24-48 hours it should sink. If not you could leave it longer and see if it sinks, if not attach to slate.

Heh, sorry, that wasn't very helpful of me was it?

It depends on exactly what type of wood it is, the stuff sold in the UK is almost exclusively one of two kinds:

Mopani which is a very hard, dense wood that's been sand-blasted clean. Sinks immediately as it's so dense.

Bogwood which is softer and red. This also usually sinks immediately as it's another very dense wood. Bogwood leeches tannins into the water which many fish thrive on.

Do you know what sort you've bought? can you give us the link to the eBay page?

Driftwood floats and should float, thats what driftwood does. If you want wood in your tank that goes where you want then mopani or bogwood IMO.

I purchase DriftWood
Ok then, boil the heck out of it, then soak it for a month. It should sink eventually.
Driftwood wont sink, no matter how long you boil it, attaching to slate or other rock is the only way.

yep, it will release tannins same as bog or mopani. [EDIT: Drift wood may sink in the end, but will not usually]
