I recently purchased some bogwood and have it in a bucket soaking etc.

However ever since day one it has had a sort of slime fungus growing on it. Ive tried scrubbing it off but continues to grow back.

Is this bogwood no good to be used. I dont want to obviously put something harmful in the tank once it's set up. The wood is mopani bogwood.

Thanks.
Darren

Mine did the same thing, but then one day vanished.......dunno why

If bogwood is not completely dry before soaking it will do that!In other words it sounds as if the wood was still a little green when you began soaking it and now the sap/oils in the wood are leaching out.Dont think that it will continue to leech after it soaks long enough.

I have just noticed something similar on mine although its already in the tank uh oh!

So should i just let it soak or should i take it out and fully dry it then start re-soaking it?

I've never had a problem with it in the tanks I've put bogwood in - I just leave it in, and it either disappears during cycling, or the fish munch it

Thats what I did too ;never had a problem;it will eventually quit

boil it should get rid of any living organisms

If it's whitish fungus then it is due to sap still being present in the wood. You can generally sort it out by removing the wood, scrubbing it clean and leaving it in the airing cupboard for a few days to dry out...then put it back and it will generally be fine.
