Firstly. Im doing my nut.

I have 2 latge peices of bogwood that i dont want to get rid of. BUT. Theyre still leaching tannin into the water and its making the aquarium look really dirty. I cant boul them as theyre too big. Any suggestions??

Also, once all the tannin has gone. i want to plant on my bogwood. What plants are best for this and how would i do it.

About the tannins I'd just give it time. It took a few months for the big bit in my tank to stop colouring the tank. Water changes will eventually get rid of it. I think it looks nice in some tanks though.

How long have they been soaking?

I had one that i soaked for 3-4 weeks before putting it into my tank whilst cycling it, and its still leaching tannins into the water, but no way near as bad.. I soaked it in a 45 litre bucket, and replaced it with hot water (as hot as the shower would give) each day. I also had a couple of sessions of scrubbing it with a nail brush which seems to help a bit.

Have you put a carbon sponge/media into your filter. That may help reduce the colouration whilst this is happening.

I have attached Java fern, and have just bought some anubias to attach as well.. I have used bogwood colour cotton for this. Others have used fishing line which is fairly hard to see under water.

You can also attach moss to the wood with cotton, but requires more of it..

Hope that helps..

i think it takes a while for all the tannins to leach out.i just put my two big pieces back in.before i put them back i soaked them outside in the laundry sink inside a 5gal bucket totally submersed with hot hot water from the laundry sink.after bout an hour i would dump the water then refill it to keep it hot...its still gonna leach into the tank..
