soak it for a few days in a bucket. use clean water every day. when the tanins stop 'leaking out' and the water remains clear. rinse in some tank water and add to tank. is your tank cycled??

Hi Laura can you tell me what difference it makes whether the tank is cycled ? Cheers.

depends what's in the tank at the moment if you have fish then u must cycle the tank first,

a non cycle tank will be very bad for fish and most likely kill them, if you don't know what your doing have a look at the resource centre for cycling tank i didn't cycle my tank with fish in and i lost a few,

how long has the tank been running and what's your stocking if you don't mind me asking.

Hi laura, I may have misunderstood what you wrote. I thought you were saying you can only put bogwood in a cycled tank? I know the cycling processes, including the lack of need for a fishless cycle in a correctly maintained planted aquarium. But I did not understand the reason for not adding bogwood until the tank was cycled?
