Good Morning to you all, I was in need of some tap safe for a water change and as I finish work at 7pm there was no lfs open, so off to tesco I went and noticed they sold this Bob Martin Tap Safe, I got it and have done a 25% W/C, I know I am going on a little bit and going round the world to ask my question BUT........ has any body used this before and is it any good? My water all seems to be ok but I am just a bit unsure as if its any good due to its cheap price. (£2.99 treats 250ltrs)

this is what is says on its web site:-
Instantly makes tap water safe for all fish
- Neutralises chlorine, chloramines and heavy metals
- Adds beneficial bacteria and aloe vera.

Tap water contains very small amounts of chlorine and heavy metals that are not present in the natural habitat of fish and plants. These can be harmful to fish, damaging the delicate skin and
gill membranes.

Neptune TapWaterSafe instantly removes these toxic compounds and adds beneficial bacteria and Aloe Vera helping tap water to be safe, remain clear and protect delicate skin and gills of all fish.

Treats 250L

Pack size/Quantity: 125ml

Seems reasonable enough.

I try to keep plenty in stock but I will look out for that in case I ever run out, what price was it?

Oh right, do you use this, I got it from a Tesco store for £3.99 or £2.99 I think.

Oops! Sorry you did say, I am always calling people who don't read the post properly then I go and do it lol.

No I have never seen it before, I use 'Seachem Prime' mostly but I do also use another dechlorinator if I run out of prime that I got from the pond section in the lfs as it worked out cheaper.

I use Stress Zyme mostly but as I was in need of a W/C and had non I went to Tesco after work and picked this up, it seems to be doingthe job and, touch wood, nothing has gone wrong.

its half the price of stress coat...tempting to get some, but is it a case of an item you cant buy the cheap version of, for example...baked beans..you cant buy cheap! and bread.....and toilet roll. however cheap bleach is bleach, cheap fabric softner usually smells ok too ...
let us know how you get on...wonder if there are any traces of chlorine after using it.....maybe test ??

you use stress zyme for water changes?? i wasnt aware that removed chlorine and chloramines or heavy metals??

I have tested and all is ok, I will test tonight and post results, I was just a little unsure on using it as it was cheap and the bottle says it will so 250l, and it instantly removes all traces of toxins from the water. Works ok as far as I can see

im always wary of bob martin produts, there flea treatment for cats is responsible for many a vet bill, it has even been liked to cat deaths

When comparing the prices of dechlorinators, you need to look at the amount of water each one treats.
The Bob Martin one treats 250 litres for £2.99. That's £1.20 per 100 litres.
The dechlorinator I use treats 8934 litres for £5.60 which works out at 6.25p per 100 litres.

The Bob Martin stuff is almost 20 times more expensive than mine.

well as I said it was only as I was in need of it, I dont finish work until 7 and my tank was in need of some TLC and I had non of my usual stuff so I nipped off to tesco and found this stuff. I have just tested my water and the results:-
Ammonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 20ppm
PH 7.5
so all in all it might work out more expensive in the long run but it was a good stop gap to get me through to the weekend when I can get to my lfs and get my usual bottle
