Blue Rainbow

hi all,

been looking for some new fish and have found some blue rainbows which look great and i just wish to ask if anyone here has kept or any advice for me on them before i possibly go buy some.

Important thing is they need a long tank as they are very active, 4 feet tank min.

My local Maidenhead Aquatics pretty much always has some "Blue Rainbowfish" in stock, which I always presumed were M. lacustris, without a second thought.

However, having spent a bit more time reading the profiles at http/members.optushome.com.au/chelmon/, I'm now wondering if there is a chance that they might be the gorgeous "Mountain Rainbowfish" (M. monticola) http/members.optusnet.com.au/rainbowfishes/Monticola.htm ...

Anyone any idea on the likelihood of this being the case, rather than the more common Lake Katubu species?

Well.. the ones which get to under 1 inch don't need a 4fter, so we should wait and see what m00ms says..

You could have Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish instead

Depending the kind, some will get lost in a 3ft tank IMO.

Dwarf Neon Rainbows are beautiful and would be fine IMO in a 3' tank depending on a) how many fish you already have and b) how many you get

think my local lfs had Dwarf Neon Rainbows in a tank near the blue rainbows, as the blues are a no no i shall go have a better look at the dwarfs tommorrow.

what it is that i got given a small corner tank which i have set up in my kitchen recently and i have taken lots of little ember tera and couple other fish and put them into the kitchen tank so my 120 lt tank is looking a bit like a closing down sale at the momment so im needing more stock for it.i am having trouble either finding suitable or fish that i like!!

i saw and liked columbian tetra but when i googled and looked into them the other day i went off them but cant remember for what reason why?

The Dwarf Neons will more than likely look very dull at the lfs but once they're settled they colour up beautifully (mine took 2 days). The females have the same irridescent blue scales on their sides but tend to have orange fins as opposed to the males who have bright red fins.
