A friend has told me today that she is giving me some guppies, well 2 and they look like the above (although that isn't a pic of them).

I am slightly worried about them dropping fry but figured that if they did and I had not noticed or am not around, my bettas will get them, so there wouldn't be a high survival rate.

Is a guppies gestation period around 30 days? If I could get a rough estimate, I could be prepared.

My substrate is sand, there are alot of plant hiding places and pebbles.

Beth, my 3 year old male veiltail lives in an endler tank for the purpose of removing the excess fry. I should fire him. If I did my job that badly I would be looking for work. A mature male betta may eat 2 or 3 fry the first day but the fry will quickly become both too fast and too big for him. After about the second day, he will be over matched by guppy fry. That means lots of survivors unless the guppies themselves are eating them. My Betta splendens have always been peaceful members of my communities and my present veiltail failure is further proof of it.

ah well, looks like i'll be keeping my 60ltr tank for guppie purposes lol
