I was pretty sure you need a bigger than to keep discus than the one you have.

With the stocking you have Discus would not be ideal. They require higher temperatures than the fish you already have, not to mention they need plants and a pH of about 6. Do extensive research before going onto a fish like Discus, they aren't exactly a beginner fish.

If you decided to switch to discus, i think that you need an RO system (correct me if I am wrong guys) and buffer the water to the specific specifications required for discus. If you were to do a disccus only tank, 55g would be okay for 5

ive done my research and I know that a 55g would be ok for 5 discus im just wanting to know if anyone has mixed them with acaras before

Acaras prefer cooler temps, also 55gs is to small for 5 discuss dispite what alot of discus owners will tell you

55g is fine for 5 discus. Most discus owner will tell you that because they have experience in keeping a fish that is considered advanced. Any research will tell you that it is fine.

Mr. VIllicus, Discus will not be okay with your current setup. If you want to go the discus route, you will need to rehome what you have or buy another tank. Also, plenty of research. There are quite a few experienced discus keepers on this forum. One of them has a pretty fab breeding thread. You may talk to him as he seems like a pretty standup guy when it comes to discus knowledge.

The temperatures required for discus are way too high for a blue acara. Plus the aggression levels of a blue acara will stress your discus. The water parameters required for discus are also different. Discus prefer much lower pH levels. Mixing the two will cause stress with eitehr of the species and would just not be wise. Especially when you think of the prices you pay for these fish. Discus are rather expensive and I wouldn't want to risk killing them or getting them sick.

Agreed.
