Hi

I have the following:

110 Litre tank
2 x Blue Acaras
5 x Blue Zebras
1 x Blood Red Parrot
1 x Sailfin Plec
1 x Blue Lobster!

They all seem pretty happy with each other at the moment. The Blue Zebras quarrel occasionally. The Acaras seemed to have established a pecking order. The Parrot cichlid is probably the most aggressive out of the lot (at the moment) but the others seem fine with it.

Am I likely to have problems with the tank size with these fish? What about when some start breeding?

Thanks
Mark

thats a 27 gallon tank or so..Ur screwed dude

The Blood Parrot isn't from Africa. (Well it isn't from any place but labs, but's it;s parents are from South/Central America.) The other two are from Africa. There's your first problem. Secondly, if your fish are small enough the blue lobster might eat them. But if he doesn't he will get eaten when the babies get Older. Thirdly, You're way over stocked! It doesn't seem that way now, but in a couple months your tank will be cramped. The Parrot alone gets to be 8 inches. As well as the pleco which might get over a foot!! I'd take some of your fish back. :/

.......hhmmm. Ok....when the plec grows too big I'll replace it with a smaller one anyway (or something different). I'm not sure how big the lobster will get but it's about 2 inches now. Sounds like I need to remove some of the Blue Zebras (3 probably). Ultimately I will get a larger tank but it could be a while.

Any thoughts?

Mark

Ok so I really need to get a bigger tank.....or different fish! I'll start off by getting rid of some of the Zebras. Then I'll get a bigger tank. Will the fish I have be compatible if I put them in a larger tank? :look:

I saw a cichlid display at a local garden centre, it seemed massively overcrowded ....fish almost bumping into each other. :S They said the setup was perfectly fine?!

Some of you guys recommend overstockinga cichlid tank so that the aggression isn't targeted to any one particular fish. Is this true of any size tank or is it more appropriate to a larger tank contain more adult fish?

Thanks
Mark

i say just leave the lobster in the tank,
it'll soon get through your fish and
solve your overstocking problems

Ha...nice one!

Some have said the cichlids will have him for dinner! The lobster's the timid one......at the moment and I'm sure the fish are too quick for him? I'll keep an eye on the situation and move if need be.

they all need moving anyway :/

You mean to a bigger tank? Do you think they need moving even now when they are so small? How long have I got? I'll get rid of 3 Zebras pretty soon.

You'd have thought the lfs would have said something to me........but maybe I should have done more research?

Yes, it may look like the lobster's the timid one, but what happens when the other fish are sleeping on the bottom and the lobster is awake? WHAM, the lobster takes a hold of one and eats it. No matter how fast they are, when they are sleeping they are defensless against the lobster. :/

Get rid of the 3 Zebras and the Parrot. The Parrot will be very very uncomfortable in there very soon.

Ok so The lobster needs to go..... :( ...Now I need to find a new home for it! My poor fish! Why will the parrot become uncomfortable? Is it due to the other inhabitants or the size of the tank? From what I have read, the Parrot can be quite aggressive so I thought it would be able to look after itself?
