Bloodworm Killing Fish ?

my fish are dying off after they are fed blood worm i had a full tank of fish introduced some (stupidly ) from pets at home and my fish all started dying off on average 2 a night sometimes more the day after we introduced the fish the hubby fed them blood worm and we seemed to have a bigger loss of fish 4 went in the space of an hour after feeding and fish kept dying off this is the 3rd time the fish - what was left of them seemed happy and active today until my hubby fed them blood worm now there is another 4 dead and 2 struggling this seems to have happened everytime could this just be a coincidence or the cause of my dying fish thats 17 fish now thanks

Yes you were mad to put that many fish in one go. Bloodworm isnt killing your fish, it is your water parameters. You should feed bloodworm as a treat and use a flake for staple.
What size is the tank? what fish do you have? Do you have a test kit?
If i was you, id stop feeding and do a large water change. Also buy a test kit if you havent all ready got one.

I'd get your hands on a test kit if you don't have one and see what your water readings are from the test kit and let us know.

I wouldn't be feeding Bloodworm as much as you do, I personal only feel Bloodworm twice a week and flake food daily. It's more of a treat like the other person said.

I would also do a large water change, something like 50% of the water, and make sure to use water treatments for the new water your adding back to the tank.

How big is your tank, and did you cycle it?

i had only introduced a handful of fish sorry i didnt make that clear - the bloodworm usualy is a treat after loosing so many fish i did a 75/80 % change because id done a change hub had gave them more bloodworm - not quite sure why ? i have/had mollys neon tetras a plec coreys and plattys tank is 4ft water has been tested all is fine tested by myself and shop i had posted in the emergency bit the other night as i wasnt sure it just seems to be a huge coincidence my poor fishies x

hi i was wondering if anyone can offer any advice please i have a tank with mollys guppies corey and plec in it stupidly i bought a couple of fish from pets at home put them in the tank that was a week ago and an now loosing on average 2 fish a day ive tested the water everything seems fine the shop has tested it and said the same i have used a general disease treatment but nothing is working as we speak i have yet another fish dying - they all seem to lack the bright colours - they all look dull and as they are dying they just lie at the bottom of the tank or up at the filter till they pass they really dont look healthy i have noticed also one fish has a red ring on its head that looks as if it shouldnt be there but seems to be healthy - for the minute as i say everything was fine till i introduced new fish but now it seems like im loosing my whole tank sorry for all the questions any advice would be appreciated thanks

hi sorry just done over a 50 percent chance today but no joy still loosing fish the tank is 4 foot it has been set up for months the water is done on a week basis with just under 1/3 being changed the filter is an internal one with different pads changed at different times - it is the juwel internal filter it is all changed at the correct times the whole tank seemed to be happy and healthy until the new fish were introduced id had no deaths at all till then now everything seems to be dying given disease treatment but it doesnt seem to have done anything

meant to add fish seem to have long stringy white poo as well i dont kow if this is anything ?

thank you is this likely to have been caused by the new additions? is there anything i can do to prevent this in future ? the dying fish seem really listless at first and then just kind of lie against the filter on on the tank floor and die a lot of the fish are pooing white are these all likely to die too ? sorry about all the questions

You say the water is fine but what are the exact readings? Sorry if i sound patronising. You might have to keep changing water everday if fish keep dieng because of ammonia. It may be a infection from the new fish, im no expert though. Hopefully someone can help.

The first time I fed my fish bloodworms I went through a battle of loosing fish myself. I waited another couple weeks and gave it another go, all without problems. Im guessing it has something to do with your new additions. Usually white stringy poo is internal parasites i think... but I'm not exactly sure. But what youre describing sounds kind of like what i went through. Keep up with the water changes for now....

Here, we know that live bloodworms normally come with parasites. That is why I have stopped using it. I am now giving either frozen bloodworm or daphnia.
