I don't see how poor water quality can cause a lump that then goes away. I agree a 31 gallon tank is too small for two blood parrots though we don't know the filtration and water change regime.

No amount of water changes or filtration can account for the lack of physical space.

I'm not sure if this is a direct result of poor water quality, but nearly all issues we experience are due to this. Judging by the stocking that we know of (and possibly more), tank size, and color of water, it sure appears water quality is less than prestine.
