Hi,

Started stocking a fishless cycled tank just after christmas. We brought 9 platties over the last two weeks, it looks like there are problems and it is with the ones we have got last weekend. One died yesterday, and three/four look very bloated today, and don't appear to be feeding.

Have a single sailfish molly (neighbours gave because being attacked in their tank), this occasionally appears to be chasing them, but does not appear to attack them (ie fin nip).

Is there an obvious answer? Is there something we can do, or accept they could be from a bad batch at the lfs. If so is it worth speaking to them (are they likely to do anything?).

Checked water etc, otherwise everything appears ok.

Thanks for any suggestions

I'd go back to the shop and have a look at the remaining ones in the tank that your platys came from. If they are bloated too then that would tell you something. Alternatively, just put them back into a bag and take them back to the shop. My mum bought two platys who developed fungus within a day of going into mum's tank (they were the first occupants so she couldn't blame anyone else). Mum just bagged them back up and took them into the shop 2 days later. She was refunded without any problems.

If you only have livebearers in the tank add some salt one tablespoon to 5gal, but add it gradually.
Feed them some shelled peas.
