Hi all, i posted this in another forum by accident.

Just a little concern my partner and I have, we recently got two gold albino frogs for my mother in law, they have been fine for 4weeks. Last week we transferred them to a larger tank with new gravel and there's a piece of treated driftwood in tank too. One of the frogs is absolutely fine but the other has bloated right up and we're not sure what to do! We phoned Dobbies and they said clean tank out but we've done that, and perhaps move him to other tank incase it's an infection. A local petshop has offered to check our water if we bring a sample in, which we'll also do.

Has anyone heard of anything like this and has any suggestions?

Any help is greatly appreciated,
Laura

your frog has dropsy
you should take it to a vet who will pierce the skin allowing the fluid build up to be released.
it won't be cheap and if you are competent and have a sharp enough (hollow) needle
you could do it yourself, but i don't recommend that.

the good news is, frog dropsy is not harmful to fish, however it is extremely contagious to other frogs.
should the patient die, which it will if left untreated, please cremate the body.

more info on disease etc frogs can suffer from are found at

In truth there may be no benefit whatsoever in personally attempting to drain the excess fluid yourself as the underlying cause is likely to be serious and warrant proper investigation anyway.

The swelling is caused by accumulation of the fluid in the abdomen (known as Ascitic fluid). This is often indicative of a serious problem with internal organ function. The same way as with fish when dropsy occurs often the underlying cause has already progressed beyond help and the damage is done.

Certainly a specialist vet is the only way to go with this one :)
Good luck
