Hi
I was wondering if somebody could help.
I have a Cichlid Tank that has been going well for years. The fish have been breeding like mad and all is well.I have 2 featherfin cats that have been in there for a couple of years and a huge.15 cm at least.
About 1 month ago one of them started getting a fat tummy about the size of a golf ball and had no problems swimming or feeding. It swims in all levels of the tank and does not seem to be in any distress. If it is a girl she has got bigger and bigger to the point now she looks rediculas. She is swimming at all levels still but is seariously big fat bloated belly.
I havent noticed her eating so i am not sure if she has gone of her food.I throw a few algea waffers in to feed them but she does not seem to be chasing them like she used to.My wife thinks she is full of eggs but she looks uncomfortably huge almost to bursting point.
I do regular water changes and tests.
PH 8
Nitrates 60
Nitrites 0
Tank is well stocked but it is about a 400L tank.
Everyone looks happy and breeding like made.
Is she full of eggs or could there be more sinister issues.
Any ideas.

the nitrates are a little high which could be causing problems, i'd step up your maintenance routine a little to keep them down

can you get a pic of her for us?

she could be constipated, what's her usual diet?

try getting her to eat some peas which alleviates it, just get normal frozen peas drop them in some boiling water for 30 seconds or so, then pop them out of they're shells and feed the inside bits to the fish
