I had given him 2 pellets this morning and then gave him 1/2 a shelled pea about 5 hours later... and then all of a sudden he ballooned up... should i just wait it out and see if he slims down.. i wont feed him again till tomorrow...

Have you noticed if his scales are sticking out like pinecones?

I looked for that hes still sleek and shiny sitting up near the top of the bowl .. here is a picture he is a tiny bit bigger now then when i took the picture.. i took it before i posted the first one.

I just did a full watter change yesterday and im in the middle of cycling an actual tank for him.

He does look very bloated......could be constipated.....I would not feed for 24hrs and then just offer a small piece of pea. Hopefully this will help get things moving :good:

Funny thing is he bloated up after i gave him a bit of a pea... Is it possible for them to be allergic to peas?

I've never heard of them being allergic to pea. How much is he normally fed and are you the only one that feeds him? I would keep an eye out in case it's the first stages of Dropsy as it's come on so quick :good:

he normally gets 2-3 pellets 2-3 times a day he eats usually eats them all he might leave one and ill fish it out but 6-9 pellets is usual for him
1st time ive given him pea and im the only one who feeds him
Oh and also quick question.. can fins grow in normally a bit crooked and quirky? or only if hes had fin rot before? cause his top fin is a bit erratic in the way the ends grow.

It wont hurt him to have no food for a day or two and see if the bloating reduces. Alot of people here don't feed at all for one day of the week and the amount you are feeding shouldn't really bloat him that much. Just keep an eye on him to make sure he's not acting different in any other ways and I'm sure he'll be fine. Let us know though how he's doing.

He could've been constipated before you gave him the pea, so adding the pea is just going to add more mass to the stomach and make him look bigger. With time, it should work its wonders and slim him down. Just keep an eye on him and fast him for at least a day. If he stays large after a day or two, I'd feed more pea and start Epsom salt baths. Keep us updated.
