Hey,
i have a 90L tank that has snails in it......its not "over run" but they are getting worse.
It started off at 1 and before i started with this forum i asked my LFS if it was alright and they said it should be fine....... -.-'
WELL, turns out i had more then one and they obviously had little babies -.-'
So i was wondering what i can do- treatments?
The fish in my tank are-
1 flame dwarf gourami
10 neon tetras
6 panda corys

I don't over feed- i feed what they eat in about 3 minutes and i only feed once a day.

Any help would be awsome :)
thanks

Prob not ideal long term for the size of your tank, but when i found a load of snails that had come in on some plants i bought 4 Clown loaches and they soon cleared the problem up.. I only bought them as I have plans to re-home them into a bigger tank.

Snail cannot survive without food. Survial 101 rule 1 :good:

The snails are eating left overs and reproducing, if your saying you dont over feed then it can only be down to tank hygine in the respect they are eating mulm and algae, plenty of info on this board on how to stop the snails

yeah, my tank is probs too small unfortunately

I've been trying to find somewhere in Australia that sells assassin snails.....so far no luck =/

is there anyother fish that would eat snails that would fit in my tank?
ive read that chemical treatments don't always work and i don't really want to waste money on something that doesn't work.
Otherwise would the cucumber thing work - putting cucumber in then taking it out when it has snails all over it?
thanks

i spotted the odd few in my 90 litre, i just poke my hand in and squash them on the glass, my apple snail seems to like em dead.

I sympathise, I have a really bad Pond Snail issue going on in my 130l 620T tank, by far my most frustrating tank as I'm trying to ensure the five younger Upside Down Catfish and the six young (hopefully) Decora Synodontis are growing enough to be upgraded to my other tanks next spring (so I feed twice a day, small pinch of Tetra Prima and 4 or 5 mini algae pellets for the three Hypoptopoma). If it was not for the group of Eel Loaches (Pangio daoriae) that hide in the sand are as quick as lightning, I'm so tempted to move the fish out and then introduce my "snail munching crew" to the tank for a while... Namely my Lionhead Cichlids, Weather Loach and possibly my Indian Red Tail Squirrel Loach!

I've not looked at Assassins in detail, but don't they eat something like 3-5 Pond Snails per week?

i hoovered up about 75-100 shells yesterday i too have a pond snail infestation

I plan on getting some assassin snails. They eat other snails, and I'm also told that they breed pretty slowly, so you're not gonna end up replacing one snail boom with another.

ESHA Gastropex

There are some other smaller lovely loaches around that would work!:

Botia Striata(Zebra Loach)http://www.loaches.com/species-index/botia-striata
Yasuhikotakia sidthimunki (Dwarf Chain Loach) http://www.loaches.com/species-index/yasuhikotakia-sidthimunki
Yunnanilus Cruciatus(Laos Pygmy Loach)my favourite!http://www.loaches.com/species-index/yunnanilus-cruciatus

:good:

Corect they breed really slow i have had 5 since april and only now are they breeding, they also only eat 2-3 snails a week

I cant' find the assassin snails anywhere in adelaide for me to get any- or in Australia to get shipped to me-
i did find the dwarf loach that i could buy, i wouldn't be able to get for awhile though cause they like to be in groups of 5 and that would cost me $80 =/
Does the ESHA Gastropex work?

Please do not put clown loaches in your tank. It is too small and they need to be in shoals of 6. Assassin snails are the way to go. I made the mistake of getting a clown loach, and they are such great fish! I fell in love with the little guy, but had to give him up to better conditions. Unless you plan on getting a 200 gallon tomorrow, try to find some assassin snails from on online source :)

I know my tank is WAY too small for clown loachs....i was thinking dwarf loachs? would 5 of them work?
