Hi,

Newbie fish tank owner looking for some help!!

I have had my new tank now for three months and noticed one of my bleeding hearts has a white patch on both sides of the body (around fin - which also now looks very rigid compared to others in tank) and is flicking quite a lot - anyone offer any help and will this affect any other fish in my tank?

Thanks

Andy

Possibly Ich mate. Look it up on google for some more signs and symptoms to look out for.

Hi,

Many thanks....

I was in the process of looking this up when after only two hours of noticing the issue, the fish was dead. I obviously removed straight away but I would state it's more worrying as to the speed this took hold.

Is it worth treating for white spot in case this was the issue and does this normally take hold as quick? I also noticed what looked like fungus around the mouth of the fish - is this a symptom of ich?

Hopefully you can help as i'm now worried for the other 40+ fish.

Thanks

Sounds like some kind of fungus. I purchased 10 bleeding hearts earlier this year, ended up losing five to similar symptoms. I treated for both ich and fungus, but nothing helped. Didn't appear to be contagious, as the ones I have left and my other fish are fine. I couldn't find any info on it anywhere. Good luck in your search.

Many thanks - I'll continue to monitor the other six (plus others) to establish if I have an issue in the tank.

It certainly doesn't sound like ich. I had something very similar with my false neons last summer; I assumed it was bacterial and used Myxazin to clear it up, which worked a treat.
