Blackworm Cultures...

I plan on culturing some daphinia in my water butt starting in Spring (once I get one!),
a Spring or a butt ?  Sorry, couldnt resist ! Yes, roll on the spring, I hate these cold damp winters.

My daphnia dont seem to mind though, they continue to produce well throughout, but not sure how well ( if at all) a start-up culture would go, so yes, probably best to wait till spring.
The reason I mentioned an old bath is that I have various tubs, barrels and butts, but all are out-performed by the bath. Surface area advantage I think.

blackworms seemed like an easy to culture all round food supply. Plus you can keep them going for years without any involvment from porridge or mouldy bread!
Ah yes I see, good point :)

 I wouldn't even have spotted that! :D

I presume surface area (oxygen & sunlight access), is more important than volume with daphinia? Unfortunately, I don't have nearly a big enough garden for lots of tubs, let alone baths, so a water butt (no spring I'm afraid!) it'll have to be.
:)

BigC - let us know what the delivery time scales and costs are like please! I'm still waiting on something that's coming by courier from another site, and I ordered it Monday, so I'm being extra careful.
