i have found a site that sells black backgrounds for your tank.the site is called anglia aquatics ltd and it's priced at £1.20 per foot.it is 18" high.i have ordered 5 ft and it should be here tomorrow.much better than painting your tank.material is exactly the same as normal backgrounds in your lfs.

sorry everyone, but i thought plenty of people would have been interested in this.even my lfs(came in top 5 in pfk) did'nt know you could buy them.

I would buy one. Around here they only have those backgrounds with those phony fresh or salt water ones. I didn't ever know about painting the back of your tank, until all of mine were already set up...

Is it just the normal plastic stuff that comes on a roll ?
Sometimes it's black on the one side and blue on the other. Or has some leafy freshwater tropical scene on the other side.
That's probably what most people use and most shops sell it - if not all. So unless you're talking about something else, it shouldn't be hard to get.

Anglia Aquatics is a good website :)

Also, homebase sells sticky black plastic on a roll for £4.99 fot 2 metres. Good stuff.

Exactly the stuff I used. Sold as blue, bought it for the black. Looks loads better than seeing the wall, or pictures of exotic plants I reckon...

we've got a blue background, at the bottom it is dark and then it gets lighter as it gets to the top. our tank is only a foot deep so james had to cut some of the backing so it could fit the tank correctly, however instead of cutting the dark stuff off he cut the light stuff off and now it all looks like its black (doh!)

No need to spend money on black background when the council provides black bin liners.

uh perhaps - but that's exactly what it looks like - a bin liner
perhaps if you're not into aesthetics it's fine, but personally I don't fancy the "bin-liner-look"

The best stuff is the Juwel backrounds. Its 3d and looks cool in water. Its around £7.50 though.

or you can use a black dishtowel for a 20g High, it's the perfect dimensions and guess what, you can't even tell it's a towel unless you look behind the tank :p see:

lol, thats a good'un

I always jus blue/black backgrounds on my tanks. i can't get hold of 2ft high stuff at the moment though.

I'm too lazy for backgrounds.

Most of my smaller tanks have enough plants to create their own backgrounds and the big one backs onto a moss green wall (and has more than enough bogwood to block most of the wall).

But the plain blacks look pretty nice.
