i have a 20g brackish tank with a small violet goby in it and a glassfish. Salinity is 1.006 or so. Just recently there has been a few spots on some of the rocks in the tank that look like black thick fiberous spiderweb kinda things. they arent very big, smaller than a dime i'd say.

what are they?

Algae. A million different kinds of algae grows in brackish water. A scrubbing or boiling of the rock will take it off.

Also note- There are two species of Violet Gobies, Gobioides broussonnetii and Gobioides peruanus. The first species is often sold in the United States, the second species is usually sold in Europe. The first species will require a higher SG, and the glassfish wont tolerate it (even the 1.006 right now is pushing it). The second species will do fine at 1.006. So if you live in the US you might want to think about re-homing the goby into a seperate larger tank.

yah i rescued the glassfish he is gunna go in a 10 gal. im gunna raise the sg i guess. the lfs had him at 1.007 so i didnt know they liked higher than that. i will slowly put it up to 1.008 or so.
