Anyone have any idea why a Java Fern would get black spots all over it?   It is not black algae. I can try to scape it off but it won't come off. It is the actual plant turning black in spots.

I can't figure it out. And sure don't know what to do about it.

Any ideas?

I can't see the spots in the photo, but I had a black spot or two on my Java Fern leaves that turned into daughter plants!

This is usually normal on Java ferns.

The black spots are normal, they are usually old leaves that are dying off and they produce spores that new plants develop from, you'll probably see little brown thread like bits coming off the black spots then new tiny leaves, these will eventually break free and float off and attach somewhere else, or you could do it yourself.
Sometimes the whole leave goes brown and a new plant forms at the edge.
