Hiya! Sorry if I'm asking a dumb question but I really am not sure what keywords to search and when I tried I couldn't find any specific information pertaining to my problem.
My set up: I have 6 black skirt tetra in a 30 US gallon community tank. I've had this tank for about 4 months. Added fish about 3 months ago (a few every week). In this tank there are schools of albino cory catfish, red minor tetra, zebra danio (I know they're coldwater but they seem to be really active even though it's tropical), and 1 angelfish and 1 apple snail. Only live plant is a bit of java moss. It's kept around 78 F (a little below the 80 mark) and is constant. My smaller tanks (3 gal and 10 gal) temp is so unstable that I have to check every couple of hours and adjust heater D: (any advice on that? 25 watt and 50 watt heater - but it's a manageable problem. Once fall begins the strange weather should settle down). Oh and I plan on adding a few more zebra (currently just have 6) to make the school more comfy for them.
1 of my black skirt tetras is not as black or nearly as large as my other black skirt tetras. When I first got him - with the rest of his school - he was much smaller than the others. But back then all my black skirts weren't as colorful. Now his fellow black skirts are twice the size of him and have better pronounced coloring. He seems to be shrinking, if that's possible. He's just as fast as the others and is active and hyper during feed time - all seemingly normal behavior. Yet his appearance seems like he's wasting away. Oh, and I call him a 'he' but I'm not sure of gender.
Is this common? Is it possible his coloring is just the silver skirt tetra variant? Or a sign of his sickness / stress? Is there anything I can do for a runt fish?
