Black Hair Algae

I seem to be suffering from black hair algae in one of my tanks, is there anything in particular that causes it and what can I do to stop it?

I have never had this so im not sure what is written is the best advice.

It's generally a case of too much light and a lack of circulation, the lack of circulation allows water to stagnate in certain areas, notably where you're getting hair algae. Remove as much as you can and then do a 3 day black out, don't even open the lid to feed the fish or do water changes, it must remain in pitch black! After the black out do a 50% water change, and if any remains do a further 3 day black out followed by a water change, then increase your circulation and reduce your photo-period.
