Black Ghost Knifes....

so how can you tell the difference between the african knives and the South American Knifes

i was thinking of getting one of the South American Black Ghost Knife as they are the smaller ones. Is this write?
Is there any info on these fish that you can tell me? How often do they come out? how do the get on with more faster fish?

what do you mean by 'sweet little character when they are young ' are they not when the older

I didnt mean it like that, but when they reach full size they will apparently consume the odd neon tetra and such like, but i dont realy know from experience as mine is 4 inch long and only had him about 3 weeks!
But i would deffinatly get one if i where you. Mine is in a community tank and is getting along realy well with the other tank occupants, and especialy my new 6inch sailfin pleco which i've had for 3 days now! The pleco wont let any other fish near it other than the knife fish.
Do get one though, they are such funny characters.

few questions if you don't mind

how bright are your lights, will they come out more if i have dull lights?
dose he like to have his/her own cave if so whats the best PVC pipes?
what do you feed yours on

I just have an orniment that is made up of two pipes, i got it from a shop for £8. I have a uv light on my tank and its very bright. I think it will come out any way, mine does so i wouldnt wory about that!
Dont worry about it never coming out, just get one cos if you dont u wont know what your missing out on!

Yes i cant tell if mine has grown yet but it certainly dosnt look like it has. Get the smallest one you can get! What size is your tank and what have you got in it?

its a 75 gal
i have 1 yoyo loach (going to get more)
2 pictus (going to get more)
2 banded leporiuns (probly need to get rid of them when fully grown)
RTBS (i need to get rid of him to aggressive going on monday to LFS)

what are the dimentions of your tank ( im no good with Gal or Litres ) silly me!
And your tanbk sint a community then?! Make shur the knife fish has somewhere to retreat to if he starts gettin picked on which i dont see happening but its good to play safe. But dont let anything put you off as they are such funny little characters!

im making a cave for one tonight out of pvc pipes and i will hopfuly get one tomorrow

I have a black ghost knife and hes about 12" long and in an 80gal tank but im rehoming him because the tanks really too small for him now.I would seriously consider getting the smaller brown african knife.
