Black Freshwater Angel Fish Not Eating!

Columnaris will often imatate a fungus, underneath what looks like fungus is a bacterial problem. Try Maracyn & Maracyn II, or a sulfa based antibiotic. Anything that looks like mouth fungus is columnaris.

To drop the hardness you need to start with ro water, and reconstitute or add around 25% tap water. There is nothing you can add to drop hardness, you have to remove minerals to drop the hardness. I wouldn't worry about the hardness.

I would med with the antibiotics, start doing 25% water changes daily for at least 5 days, and don't add any pH adjusting chemicals to the tank.

I did test strips today

No3 is 40
Water is in the 250-425 hardness level
pH is 8.2-8.4 again
NO2 is 0

Melafix and Quick Cure are not working. He now has the white stuff all over his body again in patches (definately not ick again, no spots) Im going home for the weekend, and I will not be able to add what you said over the weekend. So he will either will live through it or die. Ive been treating for a week and to no avail. Nothing has helped.

Melafix is crap on columnaris you need maracyn one and two like tolak said.

I cant believe it, but my Angel lived through the weekend. He still looks horrible however. He did eat for the first time in a week today though. Took 2 flakes of food and that was it. He still stays at the top of tank with clamped fins. I bought some Maracyn and Trisulfate today. Im doing the treatment of Maracyn first. Hopefully I will see an improvement. Is there anything I need to do for the other fish while treating? I dont have a hospital tank since Im at a dorm, and Im still getting my 29 gallon set up. I should check the water frequently to see if the ammonia level shoots up correct? With all this treatment the good bacteria could get killed off and ammonia levels could increase right?

Increase aeration in the tank.
Maracyn can send the water cloudy and knock your stats.
Good luck.

First dose of Maracyn really cleared up that body fungus by next morning. He was even interested in eating!!! Still is not acting normal though and does not eat much like it used to. Still has clamped top fin too. First signs of improvement though and Im really excited. Now I just gotta make sure that stats dont change too much and kill him.

Its good sign that its working already but he isn't out of the woods yet, good luck.

I fed again today and he is really vigorous about eating. However, once he takes in a bite of food he tries eating it but ends up spitting it back out? What gives?

Also, does the fungus around the mouth get cleared last? Seems like he still has a good amount of build up there alone with some eye cloud.

It will take a while to clear that all depends on the fish immune system.
Try snapping his pellets in half.

Hey everyone,

I recently moved my Angelfish from my house to my dorm. When I put him back into the tank he acted distressed. That night he had formed a layer of whitish slime on his entire body. In a day or so he pretty much shed most of it off his body. But now his skin is still discolored a bit and his eyes look cloudy? (maybe Im just paranoid). His black skin is whitish patches still (definately NOT ick....its almost like someone spread some bleach on his body) but its not slime. HE WONT EAT. He hasnt eaten in 3 days. Ive seen him take a bite once or twice but has spit most of it up. Im afraid he cant last any longer. He acts sluggish in the day, but is still very quick if he gets scared. When ever I open the lid he darts away and hides. He has been transported before and have never had this problem. Maybe this trip was a little more rough on him than before?

I have put in melafix for 3 days in a row.
Ive lowered the pH since it was a little high
And I put in another medication that is supposed to combat different types of fungus.

Should I buy some blood worms for him to see if he'll eat that? Also, I introduced two smaller angelfish a week before the transport and they are completely fine. He is just having problems. What should I do. How can I get him to eat.

Here's a picture of him....BTW that black moor isnt in there anymore. I was just fish sitting for my sister.
