I am in the process of getting a 72 gallon (273L)  bowfront aquarium and I was just wanting an extra opinion or two on whether or not it would be large enough for an adult black belt cichlid. I would also have 1-2 adult raphael (talking) catfish in the tank (with of course lots of hiding spots).
The owner of my lfs said that it would be plenty of room and that the black belt (who is particularly aggressive and has killed another cichlid) would be fine in the tank with the catfish.

What are the dimensions of the tank? Particularly back to front. Black Belts are one of my favorite cichlids :)

I think your on the absolute minimum here if I am honest I would want something like a 5x2x2 for them preferably but a wide 4 foot could work. They are a huge fish and are not particularly inactive.

Just make sure all your equipment and decor is well held down and very strong as they will move stuff around and pull at equipment/wires

48" X 16" X 22"
I believe he is about 7-9" long

Is that 16 inch wide?

At 7-9 inches long they are not full grown yet so will have some length to go but much more critically they will have all of their bulk and height to put on. They are a big fish that can attain over a foot and they are a seriously thick fish.
