Hi all new here asking for a bit of advice i have a cold water tank with 4 platys in it have just brought a new bigger tank 90lts but what i want to no is can i make it in to a tropical tank ? and if so can i put my platys in it and what fish would be good with them thank you in advance .

My understanding that platys were tropical fish? Anyway, All you need to add is a heater and make sure your filter can keep with with the 90L tank.

Corys would be a nice base fish so long as you grab some sand (Play sand from argos seems to be good).

With that said, Maybe some tetras?

Variatus platies tolerate cooler water as well as warmer.

I tend to like smaller fish so ember tetra is one I would suggest.

Platies are quite hardy and can be kept at different temperatures but they prefer 76-79 degrees. If you're going unheated you need to make sure the tank is up to room temperature and doesn't fluctuate too much.

To be honest I'd put them in a heated tank to at least make sure the water is stable.

hi the tank the platys are in is unheated but i want to heat the new one and put platys in and some other fish.

The platy will be happy with a bit of heat and there are plenty of fish that can get along well them.

The platies will love the heat, and you could try some other live bearers such as guppies or maybe swordtails to keep with them.
