Hi,
I have a 12L (3g) tank in which I have a Betta, two swordtails and two tetras (don't know which species - but they apparently grow to about 3cm). I'd like to replace the swordtails and tetras with fish that is native to the same area that bettas are. Basically I want to achive a close to natural ecosystem - I think biotope is the word. So I want a biotope for the betta, the other fish just to keep him company and create the enviroment.

Is that at all possible??

Thanx.

Well bettas are solitary fish and do prefer it that way so other fish are not really required. Have you tired googling paddy fields and seeing what you get? Than should bring up lots of info and give you some good ideas. You'll have to post pics of what you come up with

that sounds a very small tank for that number of fish. tetras need to be in a shoal fo at least 6 to be happy. they become stressed and aggressive if kept in just pairs and such. male btta are best kept on their own, they dont need company, a 3gal tank is good for a sigle male betta.

as for a for biotype for betta, well, they live in rice paddys in the wild, and swamps. shallow, warm water with no current. in an aquairium, a 3 gal tank with a few rocks and small clay plant pots, a small bog root, some plants such as comboba or valisneria, anubias, and some floating plants like water letuce are apprciated. slow filtration is needed. airiation is not needed for betta as they breath air

Yeah at the risk of battering it into you, 3g is good for the betta only, I really would say remove the others or get the betta a tank of his own x
