Hi All,

We have just bought a Rekord 600 which comes with a Bioflow 280 Filter system and it seems quite loud. I have taken it to pieces and put it back together but it still seems to hum a little louder than our older one (of which I can't remember the make). Could it be that the tank is not on the correct stand as it feels to be slightly vibrating the tank. This is all new to us, it's our second tank so we are newbies when it comes to fishtanks.

Am I doing something wrong or is the humming noise normal?

Thanks
Fran

Welcome to the forum Northernbird.
I do not tolerate any significant noise from a filter. If I can hear it more than a foot or two away, it is just too loud. I am not familiar with your particular filter, but any noise that is loud enough to notice is too loud in my book. If you have cleaned all of the moving parts and done what you can to dampen any noise source, you should no longer be getting frustrated by that filter. If it is still noisy, get a better filter. I know that sounds harsh but I have 26 tanks running in my home and the total noise from all of them combined cannot be large or my wife would not tolerate all of my tanks. She has only one tank that she cares about and that one, only that one, can be noisy. The rest must seem silent to her.

The filter that came in my rio 125 was very noisy as well, though no-one else seems to have had this problem with them. You are the first person I've come across with the same complaint. I tried a new pump but that was as bad so I got a different filter which solved the problem.
