Hi folks i bought a bio clear sponge filter from my lfs, when switched on it is rather noisy with the bubbles coming out through the top pipe. My lfs says thats because its new and once it starts to clog it should become quieter. My pump is an elite 802 which says on the box that its quiet, but you can still hear it humming away inside the cabinet below the tank. I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on reducing the noises. Cheers

Try placing it on a foam mat. Spongy enough to absorb the vibrations, but firm enough so the filter doesnt topple over on it. Should do the trick.

Thanks for that tip, any tips for reducing the noise of the sponge filter itself.Cheers

Well it'll be blowing out bubbles won't it, and theres no real way of stopping the noise that creates. Not that i know of anyway. They generally have that constant noise going, its a downfall of the design/idea really.

Hi TATTIESCONE :)

Whoever told you that elite air pumps are quiet was wrong. They are, however, good pumps that last a long time. Try using an old mouse pad as a cushion underneath it to dampen the noise.

Have a little patience and see if you don't get used to the sound of the bubbles. Once you do, it can be quite relaxing to hear.

Oh, it's true. Click on the link in my signature and look at all the bubbles my tanks make. Surprisingly I don't notice them unless someone mentions it or I shut them down for cleaning.
