Good morning Mammafish :p

I have tried everything with that digi camera and I just can't suss it out. by the time I do work something out then thr b****y batteries go flat. are you feeling ok today, or have you suffered a slight case of heat stroke, or maybe I'm dreaming (did you actualy pay a compliment), if so then *why thank you mamm*.
what do you mean (you britts) bunch of misserable buggers, I'm one in a million. LOL. yes I do believe I am making some nice fishy friends on this forum, including my beloved mammafish, always look foreward to seeing who your giving a roasting to LOLouder. have a nice day and enjoy your fish. will post a photo of my pond later, thats if I can find it, its only little! :p

 oh and I have a South African missus. so I think you can safely say that my real hobbie is collecting African things, not happy with the wife so may have to take her back were she came from LOL.

Lets all hope your wife does not read TFF.

Staying on the same/similar topic that brewyn started. I have two female labs holding at the moment and I want to try and keep as many of the fry as possible. My plan is to strip the femals in about a 10 days time time and place the fry in a seperate tank. I have never kept fry before so, I am going to have to buy a new tank. What do people recommend is a good size for a fry/grow out tank?

just a thought, if your still struggling with the little ones why not put in a tank divider with the little & big ones separated just until they're a bit bigger. saves the expense of setting up a new tank for it :)

hello budd, an 18xi2x12 will be fine, the same as the ones I have lying around, still in the wrapping. use an air pump and air stone rather than an internal filter as you can lose loads to the filter. do plenty of water changes, more than what you would do on your main tank. crumbled flake is ok to feed to them. :good:

to add to this, you dont need to set up another tank, you could just leave them as some will survive. only reason you would set up a tank is if you want a higher success rate, but then I think it would also make a nice quarantine tank for when you decide to expand your hobbie.

dont want to sound like a dumb s**t, but what does TFF mean? been to the abbreviations post and its not there. both mamma and tanks have used it today!! -_-

Thanks bud. As most of us do I popped into the LFS over the weekend to pick up a couple of odds and ends. I had the idea of setting up a fry tank, so I bought a CASCADE INTERNAL 300 that I will be promptly bringing back, it sounded like the filter had a diesel motor when I plugged it in. Will a sponge filter be ok for adequate filtration?

I would like to try and raise as many fry as possible just to see it I can do it. I was also going to buy a clearsil 18 x 12 x 12 over the weekend, but when he came to tally up the bill he was going to charge me 40 euro / 29 pounds for it. I said I would leave it for the moment as I though it quite expensive. If you don’t mind me asking how much did you pay for a similar tank?

tropical fish forums.... the name of the site :D

i love your pics of your fish except your 'halo' lol.

sorry only just catching up with this thread.

:good:

thats a fair bit on the steep side, mine are clearsil, 18x12x12, about £18 to £20 tops, I only paid £15 each as they could'nt get the ones I ordered. an external sponge filter would be perfectly fine, mine will all be run off sponge filters with one larger air pump. get it running in your tank and get some bacteria in the sponge ready for the smaller tank.

tanks, i'm going to annoy you even more now, Ive just got an eheim proffessional 2 and a 250 gallon protein skimmer + an expensive marine tube with built in reflector, all for £35, the filter is the larger one of the 2 and retails for around £175, the skimmer is worth well over the £100 mark.

Miss wiggle, thank you. *dumb s**t*

why can i never get any deals like that ! :X

might be able to convince my mum that we can afford a marine tank then!

:good:

JayJay. not even sure I can afford a marine tank, already considering selling my 2ft cube tank, doing away with the idea of having 6 brooder tanks and maybe parting with 1 or 2 other larger tanks, thinking of just having my happs and peacock tank, a mbuna tank and lastly my marine tank, oh and my quarantine tank. I admit I am good at getting the bargains, and I think you would all collapse If I told you that I have only spent good money on my fish and the fluval FX5, the rest I got for next to nothing??????? but dont want to spoil your day. It cost me £100 yesterday just for a T5 light unit and 2 tubes.

OH, and i do like to buy rock!

Its not so much as raising the funds, its a naturaly slow process anyway, its more me taking it that little bit over the top. have told the missus that she can have a bath once a month so we can give the fish there weekly water changes. LOL :hey:
