My O ate my algea eater last night and part of it is still sticking out I am sure it's stuck in there.. Should I try taking it out I saw one of the other guys on here did it.. He is not looking good laying on the bottom of the tank I had to go to work but I am leaving early thinking of trying to take it out but will that help? He maybe so stressed out that he may die anyway you think? Any idea out there was thinking of just putting him down but the thought hurts alot I know it's just s fish but it's my fish!!!! Some advice would help...  :shout:

what sort of plec and how big was it and how big's the oscar?

your post is a little confused, can you find the plec (or any bits of it)? who's lying on the floor the plec or the oscar?

think you are going to have to bite the bullet and try and take it out. if you have any room try and keep the dorsal fin pressed down (I'm assuming the oscar got him head first?) If you don't try something youre probably going to lose him. Is there a small chance you have a fish friendly vet nearby you can call for advice?

plecs are pretty well armoured i'm sure eating one could hurt an oscar, could cut his throat and stuff. if i've understood correctly and the oscar is lying on the floor with the plec sticking out of his mouth then you should net the oscar and just bring him up to the surface of the water. get someone to help if you can, get hold of the oscar securely and try and get the plec out. watch out for the oscars teeth he may well bite you but it shouldn't be too bad unless you have to get your hand right inside his mouth. i've had a bit of a bite from an oscar before and just got a couple of scratches on my hand.

I am sorry for not being to clear just a little upset people at work making fun of me because I am mad about this.. They don't understand my O is part of my family like a cat or dog.. Anyway yes mt O is laying on the bottom of the tank with the tail end sticking out his mouth the pleco has barbs/spikes none of the are sticking out of the Oscars gill or anything.. I might try surgery  :shout:   .. This sucks

get someone to help you, bring the oscar up to the surface in a net then lay him on a smooth clean surface out of the tank, hold him still and try and get the plec out as quickly as you can, then get mr oscar back in the tank as quick as poss and if my plec's still alive get him back in too.

I will updat later leaving work in a little bit... I will see what i can do.. Also my O is about 5" the please maybe 3 to 4"

Only if fish were sometimes a bit more clever :look: .But yeh, plecos have so many little spiky bits of them it's probably scraped up the inside of the oscars mouth  .After you have tried to remove it i would add some medication, like melafix, to heal him :good:

My oscar ate a bristlenose when he was 5" & apparently was able to digest the front half & spit out the back half. I also though a 3" plec would be safe.

Best thing to do is consider the bristlenose a loss, and try to save the oscar. Get a clean towel, and a pair of needlenose pliers. Wet the towel with tank water, you will be using this to hold the oscar. Net the oscar, wrap him in the wet towel, and use the pliers to extract the bristlenose. You can keep the oscar out of that tank for a couple of minutes max, so get your suplies ready before you remove him. Plecs are spikey fish, I've been stabbed plenty of times by small ones. Expect to see a little blood from the oscar's mouth, with luck this will be no worse than removing a hook from a fish you've caught fishing.

Sorry no answer last night my computer died (and i work for a computer company pretty sad) anyway when I got home he had spit it out :# but his mouth was stuck open but he was swimming around a little so I gave him a pellet to see what would happen and he ate it mouth open and all :D this morning his mouth was almost closed back up so I gave him another pellet to see what would happen and he ate it...Will this leave a long term effect on him?? I see this morning when he yarnd it was stuck a little then he got back close.. My pleco was about 3" long.. my wife says he begging for food got to be a good thing...

If he spat it out he's fine.Feed him as normal.Glad he's ok!
