Now armed with a good paying job and supply of cheap fish and tanks working at my LFS after i'ved spent a bit on other stuff i'm chasing after a big tank.

will be a atleast 6ft and no less than 2x2!!

I'm wondering how many of the oddballs can go togther, i'ved had a looked through the fishy index and quite a few would be fine in a tank that size when fully grown.

so the fish i like are....

one of of the pictus cats
shovel nose catfish
Armoured bichir
Australian arowana
black or clown knife fish
Ornate bichir
Senegal bichir
Peacock spiney eel
fire eel
tyre track eel

I realise i can't stick all of these in one tank ( or can i!!??) but i would like 1 of each type. I think my favourites would be the shovelnose, armoured bichir, arowana, clown knife, tyre track eel....

Would it be safe to put those fish together Paul?

arowana might have some fun .

Arowana's and clown knifes both will outgrow a 6x2x2 and will need to be upgraded to at least a 8x3x2 at some point so you may want to take those off your list.
Pimelodus pictus doesnt get large enough to play with the big boys, once they start getting over 8" they will start to eye the pictus as food. The peacock spiney eels will suffer from the same problem.
If you go with a BGK try to get a largish one as they grow slowly compared to bichirs and pimeloid catfish and a small one will become lunch.

Lima shovelnose's, tyre track eels, BGK (large) and bichirs will all mix fine.

Thats for a jardini arowana, you could have one of those in a 6x2x2 but it would probably have to be the only fish in the tankdue to the aggression they display once they hit 12". Silvers and blacks are good "community" arowana's but get a whole lot bigger.

shovel nose catfish

Armoured bichir

BGK

Ornate bichir

Senegal bichir

Fire eel

Those would be my pics, I wouldn't have an Arowana in anything less than 300 gallons.

o0o.....thats what i meant!! But i guess not then  dawn them!!

we have a arowana at work, not sure what type, and is leaving happily with 2 larger angels. the arowana is only about about 10" at the moment.

yeh thats looking good, are there any fish such as silver sharks or clown loach that would beable to get on with them?

Black Arowanas are often kept with disc shaped fish like Discus and Angels, due to their round shape they are very hard to swollow and will be left alone. You could add a fast shoaling species like Bala Sharks or Silver Dollars. :)

ah ha, but if there going to grow to big I guess I shouldn't bother :(

Plus i don't really like discus!!

thats good, at work we have about 4 really big silver dollars, probable fully grown.

There on there own in a 4ft stock tank with sand and a bit of bogwood!!

Would I beable to have banjo cats or chaca chaca with the combinations mentioned above?

Chaca chaca or Frogmouth Catfish really should be in a species tank only, if they are kept with larger faster moving fish their find it hard to hunt and feed. They also have a strange ability of lowering the pH of their tanks, this can affect tank companions. However, in a large tank like the one you are planning they are unlikely to affect the pH drastically.

Chaca chaca is best left for a species tank. They are difficult to feed and usually only accept live fish.

If you like banjo cats you are better off buying small pieces of bogwood, you get the same effect but you dont have to worry if the wood is eating or not.

awww thats horrible!! there lovely litle things!! Yeh at work we had to trap neons in a net for the chacas which the minions now have.

I guess i'll save them for another then...oh well.

any other suggestions for fish to go with, or other oddballs i could consider??

Paul, I think the aro you have at work is a silver and they get BIG. If you want to see how big, go to Colchester zoo sometime.

Those dollars are also nowhere near full grown either, again see Colchester zoo.

Hmmmmm haven't been there for years!!

are there any nice plecs that might beable to leave with the birchirs, eel, catfish and bgk?
