Better Safe Than Sorry?

Ive got a nice community going and over christmas lost our Angel fish to something going on internally it would seem (suspected internal parasites due to the poo). I ordered meds as the LFS didnt have any but being so close to Christmas the two meds in mind turned up after I had isolated him and he had passed on. I have carefully watched since then for any other signs but geenrally dont get to see the fish poop as work 5 days a week. I got Waterlife Sterazin, which is general internal worm treatment, would it be best to treat the tank entirely or not bother and wait if anything develops. The angel died on christmas day, it had been isolated for 4 days and had signs of stringy white poop, not eating. I also thought perhaps best as a couple of new fish have been added since then. I read somewhere it is good to deworm new fish so thought a overall tank deworming might be good?

I have glass catfish, cories (2 species), neons, gouramis, killifish and a bristlenose

EDIT to add did see one gourami have see through poo but it was not stringy and could have been diet but these things do make me paranoid

Said gourami was found dead this morning, bagged and water change done, what are your guys opinions? Better to be safe than sorry or dont treat until there is a problem though then may be too late. I have to be careful due to sensitive occupants/

It sounds like something is working it's way around your tank. At this point, after losing 2 fish to an unknown, it's hard to know if that will treat the problem. Before you treat, post in the the emergencies section and see if wilder has any ideas.

Hi Amy,

i wouldnt treat unless you are 100% what you are treating for as you dont want to fill the tank with meds if your not certain. when treating fish for disease they are stressed due to the disease/ problem and adding meds adds extra stress on them but hopefully rids the fish of whatever has been living on/in it. adding meds to a tank with no probs will just stress the fish and may do more harm than good if treating for something thats not there. also finishing the course of meds is essential, its like when we get antibiotics for an infection etc and dont finish the course the strain of infection may not be killed 100% and come back worse.
i would wait and see what happens, maybe do a couple more water changes than normal and clean the substrate. fingers crossed for you.

Thanks very much for suggestions, the angel could have caught something and the gourami was new so perhaps to be expected a weak fish? Will post in emergencies, thank you xx
