Bettas Stealing Otos' Algae Wafers

i put an algae wafer in at night and the bettas still manage to steal it. i've also tried feeding zucchini and romaine lettuce, but the otos ignore them.

how do i make sure the otos get the wafers? maybe an inverted terra cotta pot with a hole on top that's just large enough for an oto to fit through?
