hi i am very intrested in the bettas and think they are one of the prettiest fish :D but i'm not too sure on the best set up for my tank im looking at having as many bettas as possible and some cherry shrimps could anyone tell me how many females and males i would be able to have in my tank?

im sorry if this has been asked before :S
thanks alot rich
:good:

Hey there :)

It's best to keep males and females separate as they often become aggressive towards each other and someone will end up badly injured in the very least. I'm not sure what other people would think, but perhaps you could divide the 12 gal in half and have a male on either side? Or you could just get females and have a sorority of girls- they tend to be a lot better with other types of fish too.
Someone will probs correct me if I'm wrong, but I think cherry shrimp would stand a good chance of getting eaten by both males and female betta.

Hope this helps some what :)

i'll just get a few females then (6-7)? lol ladies convention i need something on the bottom though might get some corydoras what you reckon?

thanks alot rich

about 45ltrs? you could have 6 girls and a load of cherries, however, please do note that the cherries could become a snack for them.

If it's a long thin tank you could divide it. I'd go three compartments with a male in each.

Hi Rich,
I agree with Ellena. You have two choices. You could either devide it in three, 4 gallons each, and put a male betta in there, or have about seven females. Getting the femal's might be more stressful, as they have to figure out a pecking order, but getting the males might be a little more boaring if you know what I mean :look:

Well, good luck with your tank!

If you want shrimp you could get amano shrimp or corys would be fine i think

I would see nothing wrong with dividing if it's a long tank vs a square one. But in a 12gal would definitely opt for a sorority with bottom feeders such as corys if it were my tank.
However try to stick to the smaller corys, either pygmys/pandas and other short bodied corys.
