Hey,

I have a Betta that wont do nests...at all. Im not sure if it's down to water hardiness or what but when i was in SA i was able to breed very easily, however here in the UK it just seems like such a mission. Tried all the coaxing methods i could try to no avail!

I suspect it's due to London water being so hard. Any ideas on how to correct this without having to fork out for a RO unit?

Thanks

Mine builds nests for no reason. Though not as much as he did when I first got him.

Wow you bought him from SA?

No, not brought from SA. I moved here from SA and got all my stock locally.

Oh Lol, I was really impressed.

What's your PH like? Mine's about 7.6 in my Betta tank and he seems ok *touch wood*

Ph of 7.6 here too (Surrey)
and he's been building nests for the past couple of weeks :good:

it seems to be after mine gets bloodworm and a water change he builds massive nests

Need to try get my water ph down, not sure what it is right now. Will do a test over the weekend and post.

personally i wouldn't mess with the pH as you will never get it the same when doing waterchanges.

maybe try indian almond leaves/alder cones/blackwater extract if you haven't already

Im using Attison betta spa, also got IAL, nothing!

thought you would of done that already, tried showing him the ladies?

or another male that does nest?

Getting a lady this weekend. Showed him his reflection which he got aggresive for.

Perhaps the water temp is'nt correct as it's currently about 20C ? Would that have an influence?
