Betta With Fuzz

That looks like white spot to me as well in which case you can buy specific white spot treatment - usually this says on the bottle what temp the meds work best at I would suggest you go and buy some white spot specific meds as it does spread fast.

Upping the temp will help also, so I would gradually make it warmer....up to about 28/29c.

Hi

From those last pics, i cant see any fuzz  Obviously its difficult to tell from piccies though.

Just a quick question, how long does it usually take for the spots to fall off @ 28C?

Personally I couldnt answer that because its subjective to the fish a lot of the time and how long it takes him to recover, but perhaps someone with a similar experience knows a rough time

I would say a minimum of a week. The white spots are actually a parasite so you need to stop the whole cycle of them multiplying as they are also found in the substrate.

Hi, keenonfish,
Sorry to hear about your troubles and hope your fish will soon be well.
If you're getting ich meds, can you get something with Malachite Green and formaldehyde?
Because the combination is said to be good used against fungus as well as ich - and, speaking as One Who Knows Nothing, I have NEVER heard of ich being grey and fuzzy...
A bit of salt, at the rate of about 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons, would apparently also be useful against both, without impeding the action of the drugs or damaging your fish, although there may be a PH alteration.
I'm using this (half-dosed Quick Cure) combination, after Maracyn 2 failed me, on a betta with what sounds like an identical problem, and, even though I only switched the meds yesterday, he already seems improved, with the spot on his body gone, and the grey fuzz on the ends of his rays, which had been spreading, and spreading up at least one, and getting longer and threadier, appears to have drastically reduced overnight.
I haven't been able to see any on him today, actually, but he does have long extensions and only keeps still in the higher-level planted areas around the sides/back, so there may be bits I haven't yet been able to get a good enough look at, although I've had a fairly good look at the tips, where it started.
So, at least in his case, whatever the problem is, this seems to be helping.
Have you, by any chance, recently introduced any snails from a questionable source, or noticed great numbers abruptly dying?
I introduced Nerites from a chain store into several tanks some time back, and have now had a complete die-off of pond snails (as well as all of the Nerites purchased) in 2 of the tanks, and have been finding many empty snail shells caught on the filter intake in the 3rd...

we're living the nightmare and never the dream

Edit - I do have a good excuse this time for being unable to type, but I'm too tired to remember it...

Hi mate sorry I came back to update and didn't get notified for replies

Yeah I am not too sure about med I am using it is by JBL and is mean't to be used against columnaris / and single cell parasites like ich and fin rot etc.

Currently things seem to have improved as most of the dots in the picture above have disappeared apart from the fuzzy one on the head but this has reduced considerably, so I guess we are at the stage where I will find out if this med is working... The grey fuzz seems to have gone now which is good :good: It was quite persistent but the last sign of it disappeared yesterday.

Snail wise I have not personally introduced any recently and no snail deaths so far everything seems ok with the snails :good:

Thanks,

Olly.

Good news! lets hope he makes a full recovery so you can show him off! you did well to catch it so early :good:

Hey guys just so you know I think we are on the road to recovery all the grey fuzz and spotty bits have disappeared and he remains free of any other signs of illness. On the last dosing regime now so hopefully our betta, will be, betta :hyper:
