I've had my Betta for almost a year now. Initially he was in a half gallon Marina Betta Pals tank. After 2 attempts at fishless cycling I finally got my 10 gallon tank through the nitrogen cycle. At this point my Betta had developed fin rot despite the fact that I maintained 100% water changes every 3 days (as directed by the Betta Talk website). I treated him with Tetracycline and Jungle Fungus Eliminator (as directed by the Betta Talk website) for 2-3 weeks in the half gallon tank. Once the fin rot ceased I added him to the heated/cycled 10 gallon tank. 2 weeks after that I added an Apple Snail. A couple of weeks after that I had a 2 day power outage which destroyed my entire cycle. I had no choice but to cycle the tank again - with the Betta and Apple Snail in it. It took 2 months. During this time my Betta (who's fins had never fully grown back from his previous bout of fin rot) developed fin rot again! He also became lethargic and would not eat.

Last week, I isolated him in the biggest jar I could find (close to 1 gallon) and have been treating him with Tetracycline and Jungle Fungus Eliminator. During the first 3 days I noticed new fin growth. He eats a little bit now, but only certain things (bloodworms or flakes, not Betta bites or shrimp). Today, I noticed that he has white dots around his face. The dots are like the pictures I have seen of ich. I added 1 drop of Aquari-Sol, but then started worrying about the combination of meds. Is Aquari-Sol safe to use with Tetracycline and Jungle Fungus Eliminator? Also, I can't treat him in his 10 gallon because the medicine can harm my Apple Snail. Can he be treated in a jar now that he has ich? or does he require a heater? Heating this jar would obviously be too dangerous considering the size of it.

I dont know where you live but in the Uk you can buy plastic containers with lids, square thingies for about £1.50. i use these for hospital tanks. I drill a few holes in the top. I keep the ill fish in just water no gravel, perhaps one silk plant so they can rest their butts. i treat with aqua salt and whatever meds is necessary. With the fitting lid the water keeps warmer. I put it on top of my fridge in the kitchen. I also have a spare plastic container with clean water in ready for change in a couple of days. Can you post a photo?

I'm in Canada. My fridge doesn't produce any heat on top. The room he is in is the warmest in the house. I keep it heated at 23C (74F). Which is about the temperature of his water when I measure it. He has been more active since I started dosing him with Tetracycline and Jungle Fungus Eliminator. However, I just noticed him doing something really strange and worrisome. He started gasping under water and thrashing about. It actually looked like he was coughing. Is he reacting to the medication? Should I not mix Aquari-sol with Tetracycline and Jungle Fungus Eliminator? I added 1 drop earlier. I have been measuring the Tetracycline and Jungle Fungus Eliminator and adding it to a 1 gallon bucket of declorinated water before putting it in the jar, to make sure the dose is accurate.

Can't understand why you are using two meds it will stress the fish and weaken its immune system.
All you need to use it tetracycline.
Using meds to much the fish will build a resistance tup to them.

Immediate water change and run some black carbon you don't need both meds.
Have you over dosed the med.

You can't use all the meds together.

Water change and black carbon to get the med out of the tank. And just add the whitespot med as that helps with fins aswell.

I was following the directions given on the Betta Talk website which says to use Tetracycline with Jungle Fungus Eliminator for fin rot. I have also read that on other websites. Since I put him in a jar with Tetracycline and Jungle Fungus Eliminator his dorsal rays have started to grow back. The ich was a result of putting him in an unheated tank (I suspect). I went out and bought a new 10 gallon tank/kit for him today and just set it up now. It has a heater in it and a filter. I will be switching him over to that as a hospital tank. If I only use the ich medicine (Aquari-Sol) are you sure the fin rot will be treated too? The Betta Talk site says not to discontinue the Tetracycline and Jungle Fungus Eliminator until the rot is gone and there is new fin growth. I still see fin rot on the tips of his fins.

Don't no why they are telling you to use the jungle fungus eliminator when tetracycline a gram postive and gram negative med.

I would take no notice of them as obviously they don't seem to care how many meds you throw at a fish.

Tetracycline
Manufacturer: Aquatronics
A broad-spectrum antibiotic used in the treatment of gram-positive and some gram-negative bacterial infections. For infections of fin and tail rot, frayed fins, popeye, inflamed gills, mouth and body open sores/ulcers, livebearer disease, dropsy, Columnaris, and secondary infections such as fungal. Specific for livebearers and goldfish. Aerate the aquarium well when using. Useful for the control of some common bacterial diseases, including Aeromonias and Pseudomonas Genera and the Mysobacterial group.

You need to treat the whitespot its a fast killer once it affects the gills.

I would add the aquari sol if its for whitespot.
But you can't use all three meds in his tank no wonder he dosn't look well.

I used 1 drop of Aquari-Sol to treat ick. However, I am not sure he has ick at this point. Does ick fall off? It only appeared yesterday and the specks seem to be falling off or disappearing. They looked exactly like ick though. I am wondering if the specks aren't something else, like specks of Jungle Fungus Eliminator or Tetracycline powder. I see loads of tiny white dots floating in the water. If he doesn't have ick, I think I will continue with the Jungle Fungus Eliminator or Tetracycline because it seems to be working. He actually ate today and he seems more lively.

You don't need the jungle eliminator the tetracycline fine on its own, you are overdosing the fish.
Has the betta been flicking and rubbing as thats one of the signs of whitespot aswell.

Whot told you to use the junge elimanator and why with the tetracycline.

I have not noticed any flicking or rubbing.

If you click here and scroll down to the fin rot treatment, it tells you to use Jungle Fungus Eliminator and Tetracycline (for fin rot). The website is owned by a fairly well known Betta breeder. The site is called Betta Talk. No one told me to use those medicines. I was just following her recommendations that she has listed on her site, because she has a lot of experience with Bettas.

Does your fish have fungus as that what the fungus eliminator for.
If its columnaris still don't need that med the tetracycline good enough on its own to cure your fish.

How long have you been using the meds.
Shouldn't really mix meds you can kill fish.
Have you increased aeration as med reduce 02 in the water.

Took a look at the link but can't find where she says use fungus eliminator with tetracycline.

He was in a jar for the last 5 days, so there was no aeration. I just set up a new filtered/heated 10 gallon for him (seeded with gravel tied in pantyhose from my cycled tank). I bought it earlier today. I am currently floating him in a bag in the tank so he can adjust to the temperature. Then I will add him to the aquarium. I haven't added any medication to the tank yet. I am trying to decipher what is best.

This is taken directly from the Betta Talk website:

DISEASE: TAIL ROT OR FIN ROT (OR BOTH!)

GENERAL INFO:

This disease comes mainly from dirty water. If you keep his water VERY clean Mr. Betta will never get tail/fin rot. It is not overly contagious, and bettas will more than likely recover if treated promptly. Fins/tail will grow back, though may not have same color or may not look as good or be as long. frayed fins and a darker edge are clear signs of fin rot

SYMPTOMS:

Betta’s fins and/or tail seem to be getting shorter and shorter. Or they seem to be falling apart and dissolving. There may be a darker color (or a reddish one) to the edge of the betta’s fins/tail. He may be still active and eating normally, or may have stopped eating, fins may be clumped, color may be pale.

TREATMENT:

Do a full jar water change. Use tetracycline or Triple Sulfa (included in our Betta First Aid Kit) combined with Fungus Eliminator (included in our Betta First Aid Kit). Change water every third day and add a new dose of same medication. Continue until fins/tail stop receding and start showing some new growth. This may take up to 4 weeks, so don’t give up. Once rot stops and fins start growing back you can stop treatment, but not before then.

Get you a good link to finrot and she knows what she talking about.

You must always increase aeration with meds no wonder he was finding it hard to breath.

Ok found the link but I must of missed this before she does actually the same thing fungus eliminator and tetracycline.
Still don't get why you have to use the fungus med with tetracycline, when tetracycline a gram and pos med.
