Sorry if this is in the wrong section, wasn't sure if there's a section dedicated to water chemistry (lazy). So I visited my older cousin a few days ago to check out his new apartment. He just recently got into fish keeping (hehe) and now has a 5 gallon betta tank cycled, filtered, etc. What I didn't know was what water he was using. Apparently he goes to petco every month and stocks up on "betta" water. I'm like....hum great do what you want it's your money..but then I saw it in store for 4.79$......................the same day I bought him a bottle of prime and a 5 gallon bucket (not really necessary). Why I was intrigued a bit was because I'm actually looking for an alternative water source then my tap, and getting RO water is too much of a hassle for me. Believe me, I'm not going to blow 5$ a bottle to fill my 30 gallon every week....i was thinking I need something for my 2.5 gallon tank which will be housing more sensitive shrimp (either some sort of tiger or crystal reds) and possibly a small endler or two (probably not). So my question is would this help solve my problems? I wasn't so worried about ph as they can easily adapt to 7.5 ph, but it's just my water is so dang hard!! I was thinking of buying a bottle on the spot just to test it and see if the water was softer then mine. I mean, my water is literally liquid rock, it's off the chart on my API kit...alternatively I was thinking doing partially bottled. Maybe 25% distiller and the rest tap both dechlorinated. Or would spring water be better? I've heard spring can cause ph swings but it seems like if you let it sit for a couple days it would stabilize? And do bottles of bottled water vary in ph? Sorry for all the questions haha, thanks for all the feedback if you managed to read through all my thoughts.
