was having a look on ebay this morning and came across this advert for a vase "Great for betta fish" and was horrified! its clearly not large enough and although he states that the diameter is 8" the individual sections can't be more than about 3". i think we should all send him very polite emails informing him that these sort of conditions are NOT great for a betta and pointing out that he is perpetuating the myth by claiming this. maybe if enough people email him he will just change the listing and simply sell it as a pretty vase for flowers!

dear sir or madam, i'm writing to you to request that you change the title on your listing. you state that this item is "great for betta fish" but this is clearly not the case. although its true that because of the labyrinth organ the betta can cope with reduced dissolved oxygen levels, keeping them in tiny cramped containers is not good for them, nor is it enjoyable. if the container had an 8" diameter and was circular then it would be an adequate size(although not ideal), but due to the contortions of the vase there is actually very little swimming space. this appears to be an attractive vase in its own right, please change the listing to sell it as such rather than selling it as a cruel home for a living creature.

That seems like a very polite and well-thought out letter. Hopefully the seller will listen. It seems bizarre that they would sell it as a Betta home anyway, they would almost certainly make more money if they titled it "Designer Alvar Aalto Scandinavian Retro Pop Art Vase" or something similar as I'm sure people search those keywords much more often!

Reminds me of this fish store by my university. I was looking for a 2.5gal for my female betta and he was trying to tell me "you don't need that big a tank! this bowl-my breakfast bowl is bigger then this one-will be fine for her. I just kind of looked at him and politely left.

Their bettas...wow to say the least. They looked like mutated trout! they no fins to speak of, had HUGE bodies, and were a weird brown/blue color.

Unfortunatly, I ordered the 2.5gal tank from them so I have to go back there to pick it up on Friday.
