I've been watching my betta for a few hours now (he's next to the computer) and he seems to be going to one spot in the tank, right at the front, and intently searching through the gravel. Every now and then he'll peck at it or push a bit of gravel to one side. I haven't put any food in that spot and I just feed him on pellets, which I know he's eaten. I've stared at this spot and I can't see anything, it did cross my mind that maybe its those little white worms or something similar, but like I said I can't see anything. Anyone know what he might be looking for?

Well did you put any food there in the past? My betta always comes to the front when its feeding time. Cause thats where I feed him. Or was there a decoration there that isn't there anymore???

I did put food there for the shrimp but that was over two weeks ago! And no nothing has moved in the tank.

Look in the gravel with your hand perhaps theres a piece of food stuck or something? Or is there anything unusual
on your betta's nose or mouth??

He is just foraging for food i used to have female that did this. Bettas are just greedy and would eat themselves to death given the opportunity, i wouldnt worry about it.

I used to think there were little parasites in the gravel that the bettas would be hunting for, until I found my Betta searching the gravel after a full water change. I then realized that he was either searching the gravel for bits of food or he were cleaning his tank. Could be a bit of both... Anyways sometimes I break his food up and soak in water to loose all it's buoyancy. After squirting the food at the bottom of the tank (turkey baster) I watch him concentrating on finding the food... He do this for hours and it keeps him busy and his senses alert. Can't be too bad for him right?
