I recently bought a male betta which i puchased at an apparently good aqarium. I asked what other fish would do well with him and they said 3 female betta would be best so i believed them. I ahve had them all for 3 months now and they are all fine together. No fighting etc but I heard here that they should not be kept together so i removed the male and put him in a tank of his own, but then the females started fighting and trying to drown eachother. I have put the male back in and all has went calm again?

Any ideas what i should do?

get a few more females to spread out the agression and maybe rearrange the tank so they can all get there own territories

Females are better in groups of at least 5 really so the agression is spread about. They will fight to start with to establish a pecking order. Take everything out rearrange it then reintroduce them all at the same time

like lilfishie said, you should get some more females. Move the male to his own tank. By the way how big is the tank?
