I got a beautiful betta today on impulse. He really wasnt happy in his tank was stressing something awful. They had only been in the shop a couple of hours. He is in his tank now water is warm, and conditioned but he is on the bottom of the tank! He looks absolutely petrified. I think he may be dying but he is so beautiful. Anyone got any ideas?

Normally, the Betta section are the most responsive group....Where I have no such experience, let's just bump you & hope someone replies..... Seems basic enough???

Just a thought...but did you acclimate him? and how did you do it? Have you turned the lights off on the tank when you put him in? And are there hiding places in the tank? Ill edit if i think of more lol....my brain isnt working right now lol...but those will do to start off with.

Very relevant questions.... Very relevant post!

I do know a lot about bettas (sorry if that sounds big headed) I floated him in the tank in his bag for 20 minutes and then added both water etc. No light in the tank and no way am I going to try to take photos! I have dropped a bit of shelled pea in and he has pushed it around a bit.

something the shop said is bothering me. They ordered bettas last Thursday like 8 days ago, and they hadnt come in. So they came in today, heaven only knows how they get transported. I wish I had some IAL but I have run out. keep fingers crossed please.

Sometimes I find people who do things for a long time often get so mind numb while they are doing it....and forget something simple. ie: leaving the heater on while waterchanges.....or flooding a room while freaking out about the aforementioned heater melting. It happens, so I thought I would bring it up. Since you are so experienced, thats not the case...

i would just wait and see.....

they shouldnt be selling bettas that have only been with them for a few hours, the poor little thing will still be in shock and in a matter of a few hours has gone through 2 major water chemistries. If our bettas come in a day late which is often at the moment they spend 24 hours lying on the base of the tank and refuse to eat due to the shock but pick up qucikly after that, so 8 days really is taking the michael. the only way we bring them around is to give them live food as most bettas tend to only know live food as a source of food and do not understand that pellet or flake is actually food, they need an instant boost of protien so brineshrimp is a good one use

  we are a touchy lot about our fish aint we! ROFLMAO. Good news is the chap is still alive I got up at 6 to check. He is so pretty. he is swimming tail down and appears to be a bit roach backed. There are also some red streaks on his tail....so will be keeping an eye on him. Think what the poor things go through to get in our shops. :good:

ps on the question of live food, you just cant get that round here this time of the year, on my liquid livebearer baby food it says you can use to hatch brineshrimp. Anyone know what they mean? never done that...

just look at him. I think his back is roached but he is deffo a bit perkier! He has the longest ventricles(? long bits at front!) I have seen!

Oh bless him, considering what he has been through, I think he is looking remarkably well this morning!

I would just keep up with clean water, no/dull lighting and general peace and quiet to let him get back up to normality xx
