Hello all, my girlfriend keeps a Betta with a small (although still slightly bigger than the betta) dwarf gourami and during the day (when their light is turned on) the gourami chases the Betta around and occasionally nips the fins, and the betta seems pretty scared of the gourami... however as soon as you turn out the lights then the betta flares up and goes on the warpath chasing the gourami around for quite some time, not sure how long, havnt seem them stop...

the betta is fully grown, not sure about the dwarf gourami.. the only other tank mate is a bumblebee goby.

they are kept in a small (~10lt) tank that has 2 bits of wood and 2 anubias in it.. so there are places to hide from one another, although not for long..

any suggestions as to why this occurs would be helpful (im just curious :))

hopefully soon she will have her 4ft tall tank setup and can move one of them out so they stop harrassing each other but for now they are stuck together :/

bye!

These guys will most likely never stop harrassing each other. They are both air breathing fish and inhabit the same area of the tank for the most part and they are staking out the same territory. In a small tank they will always be in each others face. The larger tank should take of this behaviour as it will give each of them enough space without having to compete for it. HTH :)
