Betta Eatings Fins

Alright so my bettas fins lately have been looking a bit torn and tattered, they usually do though but this time they are way shorter than usual.
Im pretty sure hes biting them off, how do I stop this and prevent this to happen in the future?

Tail biting comes from stress and/or bad habits in my experience. My betta Plumley started biting when he was introduced into a new tank, I believe he stopped when I added more plants. Perhaps it made him feel safer?
The other inhabitants of the tank might be to blame, have you seen any chasing/bullying?

Maybe the tank is too small. What size tank is he in? For a full grown betta I believe (among others) that 8/10 gallons is minimum, unless the smaller tank is really heavily planted.
